Burger King - The Greatest Hack

 

With a budget of just 40,000 dollars, and no official sponsorship or team partnership rights in place, Burger King India couldn’t be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

So they did the next best thing, they hacked the IPL.

Burger King India decided to deliver justice to the fans through an immersive AR experience designed for the native BK app. We created a custom API that used real time data to trigger our AR filter. The filter let fans hack every key moment of action on their TV screen, as it happened live, rewarding them with Whoppers, Fries and much more, turning 32 matches into one long Burger King campaign.

This campaign also marked our first entry in the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, in seven categories: Digital Craft Lions, Engagement Lions: Creative Data, Brand Experience and Activation Lions, Engagement: Media Lions, Engagement: Direct Lions, Creative Commerce Lions, and Mobile lions.
